Welcome to the first full week of year 2. This week the children have had a taster of what it is like to be a year 2 pupil! We have been talking to them about responsibilities at break time and lunch time as bib holders. These roles are voluntary and different children will be selected at random each week to be either a red bib (to help others on the playground), a yellow bib (litter picking), green bib (singing and music) or blue bib (tidying the toys and sheds). We are really encouraging the children to take more responsibility so please encourage them to volunteer and talk to them about their role.
In maths we have been learning all about place value using tens and ones. We know that a two digit number (e.g. 24) is made up of the digits 2 and 4 but that the 2 is worth 20 (2 tens) and the 4 is worth 4 (4 ones). We have been recording this as a number sentence 24 = 20 + 4.
As part of your home learning you could practice counting in 2s, 5s and 10s up to 100. You could talk about numbers you see out and about and encourage your children to think about how many tens and ones there are. For example- the number 37 bus. The number 37 is made up of 3 tens and 7 units. They can record this in their home learning book if they would like to.

In English we have been recapping how to write a sentence using capital letters and full stops. We have been reading the story The Pirates Next Door by Johnny Duddle and thinking about our own story openers.
During this half term we will be doing gymnastics in PE. We would love for the children to start to wear a t-shirt which matches their team colour (either red, blue or green). Please remember that all long hair should be tied back and please provide tape to cover any earrings. Our PE will usually be on a Tuesday but please remember to keep a PE kit in school at all times- especially those who are starting sporting after school clubs from Monday.
