What have we been doing in English? Last week we looked at the Nativity Story and were lucky enough to be able to watch a performance of the Reception's 'Noisy Nativity' at the start of the week. The children focussed on describing the characters and settings in their stories, and were able to produce some great re-tells.
What have we been doing in Maths? The children continued with their Maths Assessments and also had some fun with some Christmas based Maths problems.
Other news… Thank you all for taking time out of your days to come in to our first ever Year Two Reading Event. The children were absolutely thrilled that you came in and we really hope you enjoyed it.

Week Ending 5.12.14
What have we been doing in English? Last week the children prepared for their Autumn Term winter assessments by looking at 'The Bear and The Hare' story then planning and writing their own story based on the characters. The children were able to include lots of the adjectives and connectives that we have been looking at in the past weeks and we are hoping for some really good stories.
What have we been doing in Maths? In Maths we have been completing the Autumn Maths assessments where the children are able to showcase the skills that they have been working on since the start of the and beyond.
What have we been doing in Topic? In topic we spent a day looking at the famous doctor Edward Jenner and learning about his discoveries and life. The children found this really interesting and produced some lovely presentations about him.

Week ending 28.11.14
What have we been doing in English? Last week we looked at stories set in the fantasy genre and planned and wrote our own magical stories filled with princesses, talking animals and wizards! The genre really encouraged the children to use their imaginations and they produced some lovely work.
What have we been doing in Maths? In maths we started to look at subtraction problems, these proved quite challenging for the students but by the end of the week they were starting to get the hang of it.
What have we been doing in Topic? In topic we had a fantastic time visiting Nando's restaurant. We were given a tour of the restaurant, lots of information on healthy eating and the chance to build our own burger. All of the children thoroughly enjoyed this day out! Other news… Don’t forget to come along to the fantastic Garrick Green Christmas Fair tomorrow! Also, look out for information regarding our Year 2 Reading Event in the next few days.

Week ending 14.11.14
What have we been doing in English? Last week we looked at using alliteration and rhyming words in our writing. We planned and then wrote poems about animals using these techniques. The poems were really fun to read!
What have we been doing in Maths? Last week we began looking at money. We looked at the different coins used and worked at finding totals and giving change by choosing different things to eat from the spooky 'Halloween Cafe'!
What have we been doing in Topic? Our topic for this term is 'How Are You'. Last week we learnt about different types of bread and had an enjoyable morning tasting and comparing a range of breads.
Other news… November 27th sees our ‘Decorate your head’ day which is being organised by FOGG. In return for decorating your head please bring in a small gift for the Christmas fair.
The Talent Show was a great success and helped us to raise lots of money for Children in Need. Congratulations to everyone who took part and well done to Daisy and Harry in Mr Harvey's class and Rachel and Braydon in Mrs Prophet’s class, who won best class talents!
Please could we also take this opportunity to remind you to send in permissions slips for the educational trip to Nando's Restaurant as we wouldn't want any of the children to miss out.

Week ending 7.11.14
What have we been doing in English? Last week we looked at stories set on bonfire night . We sequenced the stories and worked on retelling the story and using this as stimulus for our own stories set on bonfire night.
What have we been doing in Maths? Last week we looked at length and measuring using a ruler. The children enjoyed estimating and measuring their different body parts.
What have we been doing in Topic? Our topic for this term is 'How Are You?'. Last week we had a day thinking about the Christian celebration, Harvest . We spent the day designing thank you cards, writing prayers of thanks and creating pastel still life pictures.
Other news… Our gymnastics has now started. Every week our gym coach Tracy will be in teaching the children the skills. Children in Need is on Friday- it’s not too late to enter the talent show. Remember to practice at home!
