10th December 2018

Well done to the 12 children who took part in the Gymnastics Festival and represented Garrick Green. They had a fantastic time and got to try out lots of different equipment!

This week in English we have been learning about Christmas around the world. We have been looking at how different countries celebrate and making comparisons to our traditions in the UK.

In maths we have been learning about multiplication. The basic idea of multiplication is repeated addition. Example: 5 × 3 = 5 + 5 + 5 = 15. We will be continuing with this in the new term. As part of your home learning it would be great if you can continue to count in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s as this help children to answer multiplication problems.

We also ask that for your Christmas home learning that all children read every day or at least 5 times a week. Thank you for your support with this.

Finally, thank you for your continued support this term. We are really proud of how hard the children have worked. They have settled in to year 2 really well and we are really excited about the Spring term.
We wish you all a very merry Christmas and look froward to seeing you in the new year.

It is Christmas jumper day Friday 14th December. We are asking for a £1 donation which will all go to Save the Children.

The last day of term is Tuesday 18th December and we return to school on Thursday 3rd January. Don't forget we have a drop-in session on Tuesday 18th where you are welcome to come into the classroom any time from 915 am until 1130 am. You can look at how hard the children have worked this term and join us for some Christmas crafts!

We have our second year 2 reading event on Wednesday 9th January at 2pm.

3rd December 2018

The children had a fantastic time at the Playhouse on Friday watching The Snail and the Whale. We hope that you've heard all about it!

This week in maths we have been continuing to look at money. We have been...

- making amounts using the fewest coins ( e.g. 57p = 50p + 5p + 2p)
- solving simple problems for money (e.g. I have one coin and Mr Whitehead had 2 coins. Who has 10p and who has 12p?)

We have also been carrying out some assessments so the children have been very busy!

In English we have been writing a letter the Father Christmas! We have tried to include all of the following things...

- contractions (such as I'm, I'd)
- common exception words spelled correctly
- different types of sentences including statements (ending in a full stop) and questions (ending in a question mark).

In science we learnt about our skeleton and muscles. We also looked at animals that have an internal skeletong (endoskelton) like us and those that have an external skeleton (exoskelton). Don't forget that you can log on to Developing Experts website and complete the quiz at home.

Don't forget that we have the disco next Wednesday 530 - 7pm. Tickets are £2.50 and include a drink and a snack.
